IC INFORMATION
Name: Kazahana (also goes by Hana)
Canon: original
Age: 19
Gender: male, he/him
Species: cursed human
Appearance: a young man with fluffy white hair, extremely pale skin, and pale blue eyes with heavy bags under them. not too thin, fit. wears warm clothes, sometimes even in summer. a more in-depth visual guide is located here.
Canon point: the year 2034, a normal day in spring, just after early morning training.
History: Kazahana's world is almost in ruin. He was born during a time when fierce Monsters outnumber the human population on earth. These Monsters are entirely beastlike in looks and nature, with jaws and fangs, wings and claws. The scary part is, if they bite you, they will infect you, and you will change into a Monster within a month. Not a shred of humanity remains and you will be put down sooner rather than later.
To combat these beasts and their lethal means of reproducing, humans began to evolve and be born with special powers. Hana's parents passed down ice powers to him, and to his younger brother. The juvenile Hana didn't quite accept his ice powers, and tried to use them as little as possible.
He was a happy child, nonetheless. However, when he was only fifteen years old, there was a Monster raid in his city. Unprepared for the Monsters, nearly all citizens of the city were wiped out. Hana's parents were both killed during the attack as they desperately tried to defend their children. Hana, himself, was wounded, but managed to survive, even after being bitten by a Monster. He could not protect his brother.
Whether it was because of the Monster bite, or from seeing his entire family slaughtered, or, perhaps, a combination of both, Hana's hair changed to white that day. This event seemed to trigger his powers, causing them to increase in potency at a rapid pace. He used his ice powers several times during the fight, attacking the beasts in a rage with concentrated blizzards and icicles, freezing them in place and then shattering them. His powers had become so strong that he was able to fend off the group all by himself. When he was found by the city patrol later that night, Hana had drastically changed; white-haired, pale blue eyes, he was no longer the sunny cheerful boy that he was growing up. He was now basically a shell of his old self.
Because he was bitten by a Monster during the battle, Hana now faces a new crisis. He will eventually succumb to the Monster's poison and start to become beastlike. His ice powers have managed to stave off the poison from spreading over the years, but he knows that he will inevitably change completely. The local government is keeping tabs on him, and only allows him to stay alive because he is currently not a threat. Hana has been training with the city guard since that fateful attack in order to become stronger, so that he can protect people and not let others experience what happened to him.
Personality answers:
-What does your character think about physical appearances? Are they the sort to meticulously primp themselves, or could they not care less?
As far as cleanliness goes, Kazahana showers after training every day. His showers are quick, with cold water, but he makes sure to wash everywhere. He lets his hair air-dry, and tries to keep his clothes neat and tidy, even if they are hand-me-downs. He wants to look nice, but that may only be because he doesn't want to be a bother to others. There is a part of him that wants to look "acceptable" so people might speak to him.
-What would your character say is their best trait? What is truly their best trait?
Hana believes his best trait is his physical strength, but there is always room for improvement. He wants to be strong enough to protect people. And while he is physically strong, his best trait actually would be his determination to help others. He doesn't consider himself a hero, far from it, but he doesn't want people to suffer like he did. He is one of the first people to recklessly rush into danger to protect a civilian, without considering his own safety.
-What is your character's biggest ambition at their current canon point? To what lengths would they go to see it to fruition?
After losing his family, Kazahana's only wish is to defend the remaining people of his city from harm. He serves the city as a guard, caring more about others' wellbeing than his own. Though he wishes to protect those around him, he doesn't care what happens to himself. He will run himself ragged for someone else, believing he is undeserving of love because he is corrupted. He is prepared to sacrifice himself if that will let someone else live.
-What is justice to your character? How important is it to them?
Hana doesn't think about justice a lot, because he is simple-minded. He believes that all the humans of earth should be saved, but doesn't stop to consider if they are good or bad people. He does not wish for anyone else to be turned into a Monster, or to simply be killed by one, whether they are a mother or a thief. Human life is extremely important to him, but he hasn't been put into a situation where he's needed to make a choice, probably has never met a criminal before (to his knowledge). Right now, the only thing he understands is that the Monsters in his world must be stopped at all costs.
Inventory: Hana does not own many possessions, so he will be arriving with the clothes he is wearing (tight black turtleneck shirt, wine red fur-lined jacket, jeans, gloves, fur-lined boots), a photo ID card, and an old family photo.

Player Goals: I would love for my character to make friends with other characters. Kazahana wants to protect people, but also ends up isolating himself so that he does not hurt anyone. He has never been in a game, and I'd like for him to learn that, even if he faces challenges, he does not have to be alone. I enjoy maintaining different character relationships, while also playing in an overarching plot. I think, because Kazahana is strong, he will be a good fit for the game's horrors, but he will eventually have to connect with other people in order to survive. That aspect is very interesting to me!

He didn't dislike his ice powers, though he wasn't exactly thrilled with them. As a child, Kazahana did not care to use or to refine them, because he didn't need them. His parents' powers were obviously stronger than his, and he could do nothing more than perform simple tricks, like creating a large snowflake to show other children. He wasn't proud of these powers, because they were not advantageous, at the time. Other children seemed to have much more interesting powers, he thought, so he didn't practice or try to make himself stronger. His powers burst forth and became stronger when he had to fight for his family.
2) We'd like some more insight into your first answer. How does he fear his appearance will bother others? How does he feel about his appearance now that it's changed to the degree that it has, having been bitten by a Monster?
Hana knows he looks different compared to how he looked as a child. Not only has his hair become stark white (when it used to be black), his eyes are unnaturally pale, and can shift in color, depending on his mood. His skin has also become paler, and he is always wearing heavy clothes. He dislikes looking different because he so badly wants to appear "normal," again. He hates what he looks like now, but he tries his best to keep himself clean and polished. There was a time he even tried dyeing his hair, but, by then, too many people knew how he really looked, so he stopped doing that. It was a lot of unnecessary work, anyway!
The population of the city Hana lives in is small, probably no more than 600 people live there, now. Also, Hana is part of the guard. This means that practically everyone knows him, and knows what is happening to him. They avoid him, not because of his looks, but because they know he is cursed and could change at any moment. Some people even think Hana might be able to infect them, too. This is why Hana takes meticulous care in grooming himself. He believes that if he appears "nice-looking," he'll seem less threatening, less monstrous.
3) Hana believes his strength is his best trait. Has he always believed this? Before he embraced his ice powers, did he ever think differently of his best trait?
Kazahana did not always believe his strength was his best trait. When he was younger, he would have seen his ability to be a good big brother as his best trait, and would have prided himself in that! His little brother followed him around everywhere, and Hana would protect him from bullies (without the use of his ice powers), or simply watch out for him when they went out together. He never turned his brother away. They were very close, which is why Hana fought tooth-and-nail to save him during the fateful Monster attack.
4) It's pretty clear that Hana prioritizes the safety of humanity, and since he's turning into something different from a human, he would surely begin to dehumanize himself. It sounds like he's whittling himself into a tool for his city. Does the city he fights for make him feel undeserving of love, or does Hana manufacture reasons for this feeling all on his own?
This is definitely a bit of column A and a bit of column B. As mentioned before, the city knows Hana, and the people there choose to avoid him because they are scared of him. In turn, Hana avoids direct contact with citizens and even the city guard, if he can help it. He doesn't want to hurt anyone, but the desire to protect people is still inside him, which is the only reason he hasn't gone out into the woods to end his human life, yet. He is deliberately slowing down the inevitable because he wants to be useful to this city. It's his home and, he believes, it's what his parents would have wanted.
Still, it cannot be easy to fight for people who do not care if you are alive, who worry you're a threat. He has heard civilians and guards alike whispering about him behind his back. And, one time, he went into a restaurant and was refused service. He tells himself that he recognizes their concern, and, to make the loneliness hurt less, tells himself that it's okay, he's a Monster, anyway. He doesn't deserve people to love him, because, one day, he may hurt them.
